Palm Beach International Raceway management has worked with event officials with the “24 Hours of LeMons” to change the name and logo of the race that will be held at the facility later this year. The organizers and promoters of this event are a third-party company and are not associated with Palm Beach International Raceway.
On Sunday, September 5 the Palm Beach Post ran a story titled “Car race parody using Che Guevara's image has fans fuming.” The story is referring to an event that will be at PBIR on December 30-31.
“Until the story came out, Palm Beach International Raceway was unaware of the race promoters’ choice of title and logo for their event,” said Jason Rittenberry, president of Palm Beach International Raceway. “It is important to note that PBIR did not support or endorse their controversial selection. The event is being held at our facility and we have no control over the race title or artwork. However, we have worked with the promoters to change the title and all artwork to something non-offensive to all of our fans and racers.” |
