JUPITER, FL – April 4, 2011 – Preparations are underway at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) for this weekend’s Super Chevy Show Series presented by GM Performance Division and presented locally by Schumacher Chevrolet.
Hundreds of Chevy automobiles and thousands of Chevy enthusiasts are expected to pack the PBIR grounds this weekend. The three-day Bowtie festival is expected to draw many new visitors to the southern Florida facility.
Five-time NHRA Top Fuel Champion Joe Amato will participate in an exhibition run Sunday afternoon at Palm Beach International Raceway as part of the WFLX Fox 29’s Pit Stop with Rachel Leigh fantasy prize contest and PBIR. Amato will provide a few drag racing tips to the lucky winner before running head-to-head down the strip in two Chevrolets. Fellow racing legend and Florida resident Darrell Gwynn has been named Super Chevy Show Series Grand Marshal. During his career, Gwynn earned 28 NHRA National Event wins, 18 in Top Fuel and 10 in Top Alcohol Dragster. Gwynn now spends his energy focused on his charity – the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, to provide awareness, prevention, support and ultimately a cure for paralysis. In addition to the racing legends, local celebrity, racer and radio personality Joe Castello of Hollywood, FL, will be heard throughout Palm Beach International Raceway as the official announcer of the Super Chevy Show Series at PBIR. An avid drag racer and fan of motorsports, Castello is a respected voice in the racing industry both in South Florida and nationwide. Castello is host of the widely popular drag racing internet radio show WFO Radio.

The Super Chevy Show Series kicks-off on Friday afternoon with a cruise from National Parts Depot in Ocala, FL, to PBIR. Two Test and Tune events are scheduled for Friday, April 9. Open to all makes and models, the 9 a.m. Test and Tune entry is $50, crew and spectator prices are $10 and children 12 and under are free. The second Test and Tune session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. for Slicks and Super Chevy Show Racers. Test and Tune entry is $25, crew and spectator prices are $10 and children 12 and under are free.
Gates open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday as Super Chevy Show participants and attendees can explore the grounds and experience one of the largest festivals of Bowtie past, present and future. For the racing fan, the drag strip will showcase numerous classes including DriveDuracell.com Class (Super Pro), Bracket 2 (Pro), D.O.T., Stock/Superstock Shootout, 5th Gen Camaro Shootout, Pro Mod Shootout, Quick 16 Dragsters and more. Special exhibition runs during the weekend include the Chattanooga Choo-Choo and Cannonball Express jet cars, the Airborne Express wheelstander and Southern SlingShots Nostalgia Drags.
