JUPITER, FLA. - - Palm Beach International Raceway's Drag Strip hosted four cars for a private test session yesterday all under the direction of Alex Harrison better known in the racing community as "Bum." Bum was born and raised in Miami, Fla., and has been racing for 30 years. As the owner of a stock suspension car, the experience Bum brings to the track is extraordinary and he was thrilled with the newly renovated drag strip.
"The track is the best," stated Bum. "I really love racing here."
Michael P. Stavrinos was the driver for the 2008 Outlaw 10.5 Corvette, one of the four cars that tested. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native began his racing career at 8-years-old. The Speed & Truck World sponsored car is one of the fastest 10.5 tire cars in the country. Stavrinos had good runs on the drag strip.
"The track is perfect," stated Stavrinos. "It could not be any better."
Pedro Apolito was on hand as the tuner for the four teams. The Miami resident has been racing for 14 years and was pleased with the drag strip.
"The track is excellent," stated Apolito. "The improvements Palm Beach International Raceway did to the drag strip made it lots better. It is the hottest track in Florida."
An achieved racer, Howard Spires played a different role for yesterday's test. The West Palm Beach, Fla., resident worked on the engines for the four teams that tested.
Overall, the test went really good and all four teams were please with the drag strip and the improvements that Palm Beach International Raceway completed before their re-opening in Nov. 2008. |
