Drag racing is hardly ever compared to a marathon, but once a year there is a drag racing marathon at Palm Beach International Raceway. For 28 years, drag racers from all over the country flock to Jupiter, Fla. for an event simply known as the “5-Day.”

The 5-Day madness kicks off November 16 and runs through the 20 and features the Champions Casino Party which will benefit the Darrell Gwynn Foundation on Friday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m. The casino party includes a buffet, drinks, prizes and gambling with all proceeds going to the foundation.

“The 5-Day is an event like no other,” said President Jason Rittenberry. “It’s 5 days of solid racing. This event is a big money event and it brings racers from all over. I’m excited to get it started.”

One racer, Silvio Salmeiri has been coming to PBIR for the 5-Day since the 1980’s. “For 5-Day you have to mentally prepare because over the years I’ve been used to the top drivers from all over the U.S. coming here,” said Salmeiri.  “They used to come from Canada and California years ago.  You have to be in your game or you’re out right away.”
