Jupiter, Fla.-- It was a weekend of classic dragsters and new beginnings, as Palm Beach International Raceway kicked-off the opening of its drag strip by hosting the Memorial Classic Car Show and Nostalgia Drag Race on Sunday, November 9th. The event saw a car show boasting over 380 entries including rat rods, originals, hot rods, muscle cars and trucks. Running on the drag strip were old-school dragsters including front-engined Top
Fuelers,   Alcohol dragsters, Funny Cars, Pro-Stock, Super Stock, Gas-Altereds and Fuel-Altereds. Highlighting the event was drag racing legend Don Garlits and his Swamp Rat VI Dragster, while other fan favorites included Slingshots, Ricky Pirone and Dave Sano with their nostalgia funny cars.Â
Fans turned out eagerly anticipating the opening of the newly-transformed racetrack, which features the all-new NHRA-Sanction, 1/4-mile all-concrete drag strip. Designed by renowned NHRA track engineer; Wayne McMurty and installed with a Bob Brockmeyer Compulink timing system and trans-lux scoreboards, PBIR’s drag strip is technologically one of the most advanced strips in the country. |
