Palm Beach International Raceway played host to Palm Beach County Sports Commission’s Super Bowl Media Day on Monday. The event welcomed former Super Bowl athletes and the media to PBIR for a chance to interact and check out everything Palm Beach International Raceway has to offer.
Although rain tried to dampen the day’s activities, the staff at PBIR and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission worked around Mother Nature’s nuisance to provide visitors an entertaining afternoon.
While the rain put a damper on the drag strip activities, the visitors were still able to learn everything about the drag strip and its activities, although they were not able to experience the thrill of riding down the drag strip that was planned.
When the rain lifted for a short time, participants hopped in the karts and went around PBIR’s 11 turn, .7 mile karting track, puddles and all. Former NFL linebacker Reggie Givens (pictured left) wasn’t afraid to get a little wet while racing his kart.
The road course activities went on as planned despite the rain. Participants were treated to the twists and turns of PBIR’s two mile, 11 turn road course at speeds over 100 mph. News Channel 12’s Summer Knowles (pictured left) flashes a smile after taking a spin on PBIR’s road course.
“Although the weather didn’t cooperate with us yesterday (Monday), I think everyone who came out to Palm Beach International Raceway saw the potential that this facility has here within Palm Beach County,†said Jason Rittenberry, president and CEO of PBIR. “All in all I think it was a great day and everyone seemed to enjoy what PBIR has to offer.†|
