The lineup of professional drag racing teams already committed to the event include: John Force, the 15 time NHRA Funny Car champion and his daughter Courtney Force, who went on to be named the 2012 “Rookie of the Year” after racing against her father for the first time ever at the PRO Winter Warmup in January, 2012. Also in the staging lanes will be Tony Schumacher, a 7 time NHRA Top Fuel Champion and son of racing legend and team owner, Don Schumacher. Reigning 2012 Top Fuel Champion, Antron Brown and 2012 Funny Car Champion Jack Beckman will both make a return to PBIR. Other drivers participating include John Force Racing’s teammates Robert Hight and Mike Neff, Don Schumacher Racing’s drivers Ron Capps, Matt Hagan and Johnny Gray, Kalitta Motorsports drivers Doug Kalitta, Dave Grubnic, Del Worsham and Alexis DeJoria. Additional elite drivers include Bob Tasca III, Cruz Pedregon, Terry McMillen and Bob Vandergriff Jr.
The PRO Winter Warm-up at PBIR offers fans unparalleled access to the behind the scenes action of professional drag racing. Unlike events held during the regular season, the “no purse, no pressure” atmosphere of the PRO Winter Warmup provides fans the chance for up close and personal contact with the sports’ top drivers.
At PBIR, race fans are caught in the middle of the action amongst the frantic thrashes in the pits to witnessing the fastest accelerating machines in the world on track. With over 8,000 horsepower, Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars will spit fire and race down the drag strip in just a few seconds at speeds over 300 mph.
Horsepower enthusiasts will experience the power of speed as just one of the eight cylinders of a Top Fuel dragster or Funny Car produces 750 horsepower, equaling the entire horsepower of a NASCAR engine.
“The growth of the PRO Winter Warm-up has been tremendous in the first two years. Now in our third year of partnering with the PRO team owners to bring nitro racing to South Florida, we anticipate the largest event yet. The success of this event has been the partnership between our company, the team owners and the drivers.” said Jason Rittenberry, President and CEO of Palm Beach International Raceway. “Our fans will once again be treated to the fury of 8,000 horsepower nitro cars under the lights for two nights at PBIR.”
