MTVSFR'S Jay Howard to Appear In Four Segments Airing During Real World/Road Rules: The Ruins Challenge on MTV Starting Oct. 28

NEW YORK, NY-- One music-obsessed teen who has a less than stellar driving reputation will get valuable driving tips and coaching from IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500 professional racecar driver, Jay Howard, of Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) this October during MTV's Real World/Road Rules (RW/RR) Challenge: The Ruins, in "The

Road to the Woodies".

The teen will do anything to win a road trip to the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards in New York City (NYC) but first must pass Howard's four-part driving challenge.

"When I learned how to drive I was on a racetrack and everyone was going the same way," laughed Howard, who recently announced he would run a tailored schedule in 2010 with backing from Tire Kingdom that includes the 94th running of the legendary Indianapolis 500. "Sometimes I think driving on the interstate is more dangerous than driving on a race track. There are so many distractions for drivers today. For this lesson, we're focusing on car control and safety. There will be no texting while driving on my watch."

In a four-part, short form series, MTV will document the teen's journey where she learns to improve her driving skills with the help of Howard, while her parents evaluate the results of each challenge via in-car camera technology. Each episode ends with a pass/fail report, which provides assistance to new and inexperienced drivers through an inspirational program that rewards safe drivers.

"Teens must overcome significant challenges as beginning drivers," said Lisa Bacus, vice president of marketing for American Family Insurance "The MTV campaign with IndyCar driver Jay Howard and Mindshare Entertainment illustrates the challenges real teens face and, with the use of the innovative technology of the Teen Safe Driver Program, shows how direct involvement vastly improves driving habits. Thanks to Jay for being the teen's coach throughout the series."

If the teen completes the challenges, that pertain to a road trip, with less than 10 points on her report, she will join Howard on the red carpet and attend the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards in NYC at the Roseland Ballroom this December.

Tapping into teens' No. 1 passion point, music, this program kicks off this week, built from National Teen Driver Safety Week and culminates in MTV's newest music tent pole event, the 2009 mtvU Woodies this December.

With valuable driving tips and coaching from 2006 Firestone Indy Lights Champion Howard, the teen driver will have to complete four driving challenges as they pertain to a road trip: including highway safety, parental freedom on the road, driving while fatigued and texting while driving. She'll need to prove to her parents that she is a safe and responsible driver in order to win the tickets to the big show in the ultimate road trip to NYC.

Tune in Wednesday nights, starting Oct. 28 at 10 p.m. EDT on MTV, for the next four weeks, during MTV's 18th installment of RW/RR Challenge: The Ruins, to find out if Howard's driving tips propel this music-obsessed teen to a better driving record and to the mtvU Woodie Awards.

The short-form series will culminate with the fifth segment airing during the Woodies on Friday, Dec. 4, on MTV, at 10 p.m. EDT/PT.

Consumers can also enter to win their own trip to the Woodies at amfam.mtv.com. While on the site, visitors can virtually "sign" a safe-driving pledge, test their safe- driving knowledge, learn more safe-driving tips, and watch each of the "The Road to the Woodies" episodes featuring Howard.
